This is an excellent op-ed piece that come out in the NY Times a few days ago, written by a farmer from Rushford, MN. His is an excellent example of why the farm bill in its current incarnation is so darn screwy.

Thank you for posting Jack's Op-Ed. I think Jack has a legitimate complaint and have contacted both Rep. Tim Walz and Chairman Collin Peterson of the House Ag Committee and Sen. Amy Klobuchar of the Senate Ag Committee. I asked them to read the Op-Ed , consider Jack's position and inform me what they intend to do about it. I think these members of the MN delegation are supportive in principle to small scale, local and sustainable agriculture, but I do not think they have have the political will to stand up to the "big veg" interests and delegations. We constituents in sufficient numbers ragging on them and using our clout as voters and contributors are the wellspring of that political will.
